Make an Easy Scary Wreath

Last year around this time I created a post and a video on making creepy Halloween portraits. But I also printed out a smaller version of a portrait and put it in a wreath. The great thing about this wreath is it is super easy to make and didn’t cost a lot. I think the most expensive items were the grapevine wreath and a can of spray paint.

For the wreath you will need:

Instructions:

  1. Spray paint the wreath; allow to dry thoroughly.

  2. Cover the canvas with a base of mod podge.

  3. Place the print on top of the wet canvas and cover image with mod podge to help weatherproof and provide a glossy look. I used a black light to illuminate it on my door and this made it glow more.

  4. Once dry, use the black paint to apply a jagged line around the edges of the image and paint all edges of the canvas.

  5. Set aside to dry thoroughly.

  6. Take the painted wreath and start arranging the silk flowers, stems, and any other items you found to place around the wreath.

  7. Hot glue to hold items in place once you like the arrangement.

  8. Cut a long length of ribbon or thick yarn (24-30” long).

  9. Glue the middle of the ribbon  to the top edge of the canvas. You need 2 long ends to attach the picture to the wreath.

  10.  Allow to dry.

  11. Use the ends of the ribbon/yarn to tie the picture to the top of the wreath. You may need to adjust to get the image centered just right. It will depend on the wreath as not all are perfectly round or have openings right where you want them.

  12. Hang on your door and enjoy. I used a black light to make it a little spookier.
